Hand Dyed and Hand Knit Baby Hat

Angora wool is considered one of the most luxurious of all fibers. It is seven times warmer than wool and silky soft. It is surprisingly easy to spin. It can be spun carded or just off the rabbit without any preparation. Sheared bunny wool is no more difficult to spin than plucked wool.

Angora wool sold at Bungalow Farm is prime wool. Prime wool is considered adult angora wool at least 2.5 to 3 inches in length. It is matt free and clean, and has no second cuts. Our Prime wool is German angora wool that has unbelievable crimp and luster.

We also have Prime colored wool from our high percentage German cross rabbits. These animals are from both the 2002 and 2006 German import lines.

Prepared Angora blend batts and roving that have been hand dyed are also available. Batts and roving are prepared on a Patrick Green Supercard, which produces an amazingly light and consistent product. Usually the fiber can be carded and blended in one pass making the fiber much less prone to breaks and neps. Because care is made to ensure the blended fibers are of equal length, there is less tendency to pill.

You will find these batts and roving easy to spin and capable of a nep and pill free yarn.

Mill Spun Angora Yarn

Mill spun yarn is a new item here at Bungalow Farm. We have a 85% German Angora/15% Merino Wool yarn and a 50% German Angora/30% nylon/20% Superwash Merino wool yarn. Both yarns are sport weight that knit up in a wide range of gauge. The yarn is a gorgeous 2 ply yarn that knits like a dream and has a lovely luster and hand.

All mill spun yarns are spun from the International Association of German Angora Rabbit Breeders angora grown on small farms to the highest standards of care. The Co-op yarn is from rabbits raised with care and diligence to provide the best product available. This yarn is spun from Prime wool that has been shorn every 90 days. The consistent length and texture makes for a naturally shed and pill resistant yarn.

Indigo Yarn

Also, we now have Angora Blend Sock yarn! A sturdy blend of 50% Angora/30% nylon/20%Superwash Merino for a long lasting sock in a fingering/sport wt. 2 ply yarn. Knits up at about 6 sts. per inch on a size 1 US needle. Natural color priced at $15 per skein (about 170 yds) and dyed yarn at $20 per skein. Two skeins are ample for one pair of socks. Also great for wristwarmers, gloves, mittens and hats!
